MANILA, Philippines – A 4Ps beneficiary is recently making waves online for ranking tenth in the September 2019 Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET). Garnering a score of 89.80 percent, based on the results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last December 2019, Roxan Jane Pesalbon Arenas wowed everyone with her story.
The fourth of six siblings to a carpenter and child development worker couple living in Barangay Western Poblacion in San Francisco, a town in Camotes Islands, Cebu, Roxan admits to hardships they experienced as a family. Her dad could only work on small projects from time to time and doesn’t have a regular source of income.
But thanks to the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), a conditional cash transfer program from the government, Roxan and her family managed to live a better life. She did not waste the opportunity given by the program so she and her siblings can finish their studies.

Roxan made sure to do well in school as one of the monitored children under the 4Ps program, along with her younger siblings who are now in Grades 4 and 11.
And while her parents did not have a steady source of income, Roxan and her siblings received assistance from the government for their education as well as food allowance through the 4Ps. She decided to take up Bachelor in Elementary Education, Major in Content Education, at Cebu Technological University (CTU) campus at their hometown in San Francisco, Camotes Islands.
Ranking tenth in the September 2019 LET was totally unexpected but was certainly a wonderful blessing for Roxan. In a post on Facebook, she thanked God for answering her prayers, in giving her wisdom, good health, and such. She dedicated this wonderful milestone to her supportive parents and siblings.
The topnotcher inspired everyone as she remains humble in her achievement, sharing that she owes her success to the many people who helped her reach for her dreams. She also thanked her professors and to the CTU family for inspiring her to do better.
Though she ranked tenth in the board exams and could possibly find a better job in a bigger city, this newly licensed professional teacher chooses to find a job at her hometown so she can inspire the kids there to work harder on their dreams. Because anyone and everyone can achieve their dreams, no matter the circumstances.
Congratulations, Ma’am Roxan!
