MANILA, Philippines – Several Filipino-Chinese schools in Manila declared suspension of classes for January 31 and following days as precaution against the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
Here's the latest list of class suspensions for Friday, January 31:
On Thursday, the Department of Health (DOH) officially announced the first confirmed case of 2019-nCoV in the country. This is after the laboratory results of the 38-year-old female Chinese patient under investigation (PUI) were released today.

Twenty-three (23) PUIs are currently admitted and five (5) have been discharged but are still under strict monitoring. DOH also reported one PUI mortality, the 29-year-old Chinese man from Yunnan, China, who died of pneumonia at San Lazaro Hospital.
The 2019-nCoV has killed at least 170 and infected nearly 8,000, spreading from its epicenter in Wuhan, China to several countries in Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East.
The new coronavirus has caused alarm because of its similarity to SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), which killed hundreds across mainland China and Hong Kong in 2002-2003.

- Chiang Kai Shek College - suspended until February 8
- Hope Christian High School - class resumption on February 10
- Philippine Cultural College
- St. Jude Catholic School - class resumption on February 8
- St. Stephen’s High School - class resumption on February 10
- Tiong Se Academy - class resumption on February 3
- Uno High School - suspended until February 8 (resumption of classes depends on situation)
