Maximino Alcantara III and Rio John Abel died on the spot while Darwin Lajara was rushed to the hospital but died a day after the accident.

Police said that the Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Alcantara crashed with a trailer truck in Barangay Banaybanay 1 in San Jose town in Batangas at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday. They were on their way home after delivering relief goods to an evacuation center in the province.

Many have expressed their condolences for the brave souls.

According to Rio's cousin, Ernani Garcia Basit, Rio was a former SK chairman and a young line chef at a Japanese restaurant.

Rio's former adviser when he was a student at Holy Family Montessori in San Jose, Batangas, was in tears as she recalled how good of a person Rio was.

Teacher Maria Cristina Floren said, "Makulit pero napakabait na bata. Mapagbigay talaga sya. Ang sakit sa akin Rio bilang isang adviser mo dati na mababalitaan ko na wala ka na. Proud na proud ako sa iyo kasi napakasipag mo daw sa work mo. Nakakaproud na kahit makulit ka noon ay may mabuti kang puso para tumulong sa nangangailangan nating kababayan. Gone too soon Rio."

Batangas Fire Officer 1 Rhobell Flores Aguilera on Tuesday confirmed the car accident involving Maximino Alcantara III and Rio John Abel.

Aguilera said they received a call at 2:00 a.m. from their station in Batangas, involving a vehicular accident. He continued, "They need extrication tools and equipment in order for the victims to be extricated."

The team was led by FO3 Kennedy Dimaano of Batangas Fire Department Special Rescue Unit.

Both victims were in their 20s...Bumangga sa likod ng 10-wheeler truck.

Due to the impact and damage, the rescuers had difficulty retrieving the victims who were trapped inside the vehicle.

"Kinailangan ng BFP SRU Batangas na gumamit ng tools and equipment para matanggal sila sa loob ng kotse," Officer Aguilera said.
