MANILA, Philippines – Forget about a sweep as Meralco levelled the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals series 1-1 after downsizing Ginebra, 104-102 on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City.
Spearheaded by super import Allen Durham, Meralco assured PBA fans of a thrilling game 5 after edging the Kings in well-known Ginebra territory in Lucena City.
Allen Durham hit a team-high 21 points and 18 boards. Aside from Durham, 4 more Meralco players are also in double-figures to help their team tie the series to 1 apiece.
On one hand, PBA Finals neophyte Stanley Pringle had a solid outing for Ginebra with 23 points and became Justin Brownlee’s sidekick in this game. On the other hand, Ginebra’s main man, Brownlee poured in 35 markers and 11 rebounds.
Meralco had a very comfortable lead at the half but Ginebra made a gallant rally for the equalizer. Luckily for the Bolts, guards Baser Amer, John Pinto and Anjo Caram erupted from the outside to save them from being buried to 0-2 series deficit.
Ginebra tried to catch up in the dying seconds of the game. The Gin Kings made a handful of buckets and were able to trim the lead to just 2 with 2 ticks left on the game clock but the Bolts hung on and barely escaped with a win.
Game 3 will be on Sunday, January 12 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
