TD East of Mindanao intensifies into Tropical Storm

MANILA, Philippines – The tropical depression East of Mindanao has intensified into a tropical storm with international name 'Phanfone', state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 11:00 am bulltin on Sunday, December 22, 2019.

At 10:00 am today, the center of Tropical Storm 'Phanfone' was estimated based on all available data at 1,365 km East of Mindanao or still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

'Phanfone' has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is moving West at 15 kph.

  • December 23 (Tomorrow morning): 850 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
  • December 24 (Tuesday morning): 355 km East of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte
  • December 25 (Wednesday morning): 80 km East Southeast of Roxas City, Capiz
  • December 26 (Thursday morning): 190 km West Northwest of Coron, Palawan
  • December 27 (Friday morning): 505 km West of Subic, Zambales

The tropical storm has no direct effect on any part of the country at the moment.

It may enter PAR between tonight and tomorrow morning (December 23) and will be named "Ursula".

Potential 'Ursula' is forecast to make landfall between Eastern Visayas and Caraga area on Tuesday evening (December 24). Then, it will traverse the Visayas area.

Beginning Tuesday (December 24), moderate to occasionally heavy rains may prevail over Visayas and northeastern Midanao.
