The national qualifying examinations for DOST-SEI’s two undergraduate scholarship programs, namely, the Republic Act 7687 or the Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994, and the Merit Scholarship Program were administered on Sunday, October 20, 2019 in 347 testing centers nationwide.
UPDATE: A total of 9,788 out of 102,526 (9.55%) examinees clinched their slots in the country’s premier science scholarship programs.
Out of the total number of passers, 5,917 qualified as scholars under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program, which provide for academically talented students who belong to economically disadvantaged families; while 3,871 qualified under the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program.
RELATED RESULTS
Dr. Josette T. Biyo, DOST-SEI Director, said the scholarships will provide greater opportunity to students especially to those who are hard up in life as they pursue a college science degree.
“This scholarship program is certainly a package of opportunities as qualifiers, especially those who are underprivileged, will get to continue their education in leading universities and colleges. We are hopeful that they – 4 or 5 years from now – will undertake productive efforts in the areas of research and development, industry and innovation, and S&T services.” Dr. Biyo said.
2020 DOST-SEI UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP (updated):
QUALIFICATIONS
The DOST scholarship program is open to graduating students of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) strand and non–STEM students who belong to the upper top five percent of the graduating class who wish to pursue a college degree on Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Science and Mathematics Teaching.
ACCREDITED SCHOOLS
Under the scholarship program, qualifiers must enroll in any campus of the University of the Philippines or any other state universities and colleges.
They may also choose to enroll in private higher institutions recognized as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Qualifiers may also enroll in institutions with S&T programs Level III accredited by the Federation of Accreditation of the Philippines.
BENEFITS
DOST undergraduate scholars will benefit from the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES OF DOST SCHOLARS
DOST-SEI scholars are required to render service in the country preferably along their fields of specialization after graduation for a period equivalent to the number of years they enjoyed the scholarship as a return service.
SEI maintains its resolve that this strategy allows the country’s industries to have “the best minds” to do their services and products.
PREVIOUS EXAMS
In the 2019 S&T Undergraduate Scholarship Program, DOST-SEI named 9,852 out of 73,712 (13.37%) who passed the tests. This was a record-breaking increase from previous exam, which was up by 10%. Results were released in more than five (5) months after the exam.
In the 2018 DOST scholarship exams, 8,994 students were qualified to avail the program. This was 69.60% higher than the 5,303 qualifiers registered in 2015. Note that the program underwent a two-year hiatus due to the implementation of the government's K to 12 program.
UPDATES
The official list of qualifies will be available on this page immediately as announced online by DOST-SEI. Monitor this page from time to time for more announcements.
