MANILA, Philippines – Several athletes of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games have complained about having ‘kikiam’ with egg and rice for breakfast.
‘Kikiam’ trended on Twitter Monday afternoon as several netizens couldn't believe the quality of food being served to SEA Games delegates while they are in the country.
It was the coach of the Philippine women's football team, Let Dimzon who barred the poor quality of breakfast that were served to them, complaining it lacked the nutrients that the athletes needed.
Dimzon said, "I'm not sure kung paano ang arrangement ng PHISGOC, but the quality and quantity of food is not enough. Sa variety din, like for this morning, hindi enough 'yung rice and kikiam and egg. Walang nutrients."
She continued, "Supposedly this is an international competition, it should be international course, pero I think baka yung budget na binibigay ng PHISGOC is not enough to cover yung ganung klase ng food."
The same sentiments were also echoed by the coach of the Malaysian football team, Joceph Jacob. He said, "Today, my breakfast, most of the players eat only bread and some egg. We have a big tournament, I hope they will improve the food."
Netizens aired their frustration and disappointment over the series of mishaps. The hashtag #SEAGames2019fail trended at #1 while #kikiam trended at top 2.
Many lamented how the organizers have shamed brought to the country. Many criticized that while kikiam is a beloved Pinoy street food, ordinary Pinoys don't normally eat it for breakfast.
Many of course were also surprised that a nutritionist wasn't consulted since many athletes follow strict diets.
This came after several foreign teams have earlier complained about enduring transportation and accommodations woes.

1. Kikiam is a beloved streetfood BUT it's not supposed to be served formally for breakfast (w/c athletes consider as the most impt meal of the day!)
2. No nutrients in kikiam huhuhu eh athletes' investment are their bodies??? kailangan nila ng sustansya!! https://t.co/JS2nG9wiDg

My god. Sa laki 11 billion pesos na budget niyo hindi kayo nagkonsulta ng nutritionist para sa pagplano ng menu? Mga players yung papakainin niyo. Carbs is life. 😣— Kulotissima (@kulotissima) November 25, 2019
Nakakaloka 'yung kikiam and egg! #SEAGames2019 athletes ba pinapakain ninyo o mga kainuman ninyo sa kanto?— Friday Kahlo (@frusselsprouts) November 25, 2019
Kikiam. They spent P50 million on a kaldero, and feed *our* athletes kikiam. (And hold up if you’re gonna say “yan lang kaya natin” because hell naw) https://t.co/bKsRSnFOW0— /m (@marocharim) November 25, 2019
