MANILA, Philippines – The Barangay Tanod who graduated as cum laude is now a licensed civil engineer.
Last March, Janryl Judilla Tan inspired the hearts of netizens as his story showed that poverty is not a hindrance to achieving one's dreams in life.
Janryl worked as a Sangguniang Kabataan treasurer and at the same time works as a tanod of Barangay Kalubihan in Cebu City. Even with two jobs, Janryl only earns P6,000 per month. While other people might have been disheartened and complained that the pay isn't enough, Janryl continued to make ends meet.
READY: Brgy. Tanod graduates cum laude in Civil Engineering
Despite earning less than others, Janryl pushed through his studies. Finally, his diligence and perseverance paid off as Janryl graduated Cum Laude, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Cebu.
It was a sweet victory for the working student but he knew he was still a step away from achieving his dream of becoming an engineer as he needs to pass the licensure exam. While reviewing, Janryl continues his duties as a barangay tanod.
On November 14, Janryl dream finally came true. When the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) released the results of the Civil Engineer Licensure Exam 2019, Janryl was one of the 6,510 out of the 15,075 examinees who passed the exam.
