MANILA, Philippines – Many people have trees in their yard, but one woman found a way to earn a lot of money by selling the leaves that fall from their Talisay tree!
Online seller and a registered nurse Kerwin Anne Reyes shared that she earns as much as Php49 per pack of 10 dried Talisay leaves – and she’s had a lot of orders from various online stores! Netizens were quite puzzled why she earns so much money on dried leaves, with some even bashing her for the ‘useless’ item, saying they also have a lot of Talisay leaves at home and they just burn them.
But Kerwin Anne just laughs the bashers off – and she laughs all the way to the bank as she enjoys earning money with very little capital needed.
In fact, she just waits for the leaves to fall from the tree; she doesn’t have to do much because the leaves sell more if they are ‘sun-baked’. So, she leaves them at the yard the entire day, then pick them up late in the afternoon and readies them for packing.
The only investment she needed for the business is for the cling wrap plastic that she uses to bundle up the leaves in packs of 10 pieces each. She takes photos of the leaves to post online. Amazingly, she has a lot of customers and the items she posts online get sold out quite quickly.
Who buys the Talisay leaves?
A lot of netizens grew curious why Kerwin Anne earns that much money on Talisay leaves. But it turned out the leaves were precious for those who love growing and breeding betta fighting fish.
With the beautiful colors of the betta fighting fish, these are popular to collect as hobby; however, this kind of fish is actually sensitive to changes in the water. They could breed much faster with the aid of Talisay leaves.
A lot of betta fighting fish breeders buy from Kerwin Anne because the Talisay leaves allow them to have more betta fish to sell. With the fish selling anywhere from Php80 to as much as Php15,000 for rare variations, paying for the leaves at Php49 per pack is an investment many of them are ready to shell out.
