MANILA, Philippines – English is the universal language. It remains as a dominant form of communication across many countries; though it is not the universal language used and recognized in the world.
Now, Filipino does not even make it to the Top 25 list of the most popularly used languages, based on the number of users around the world. However, it can be argued that Filipino remains as one of the local languages that are most spread out across the world, thanks to the millions of Pinoys scattered all over the globe.
A Filipino and his friends in San Francisco, California had a good laugh as they made a hilarious video about how it might be if Filipino was also a ‘universal language’ just like English. It was just a random video but Martin Dominic was surprised that it quickly took off – and now has over 1.5 million views in just 2 weeks.
In the clip, a couple of Filipinos were walking, quite possibly in San Francisco where Dominic is based. They were trying to find a parking space where they won’t be paying for the spot. Because they were not from the area, they had no idea where that might be.
As they wondered about where that spot might be, they met a foreigner couple and decided to ask – in Filipino! The foreigner did not miss a beat as he pointed them in the right direction, also speaking in Filipino! LOL. The skit really gave people a good laugh – and even the guy’s female companion was laughing hard as they continued walking.
Some people pointed out that the Filipinos had already found a parking spot because they were walking. Of course, they were already walking and had left their vehicle but that’s really just part of the skit. The focus should really be just on the language they were using.
Plus, Dominic explained that it really was just a random joke with his friends that unexpectedly went viral.
“Hindi pa bumabaon sakin, it was a random “Hey let’s take a video” kind of thing, pero HOLY MOLLY it’s ONE MILLION VIEWS people!!! UNREAL!!!” Dominic wrote in a follow post, resharing the video.
