Fact 1: San Miguel Beermen hasn’t led Rain Or Shine at the end of 1st quarter during the first 3 games of the semis. Fact 2: June Mar Fajardo averages only 9 attempts in the entire series.

Tonight, the Beermen looked to dominate the Elasto Painters for the first time in the opening period and “The Kraken” seemed to surpass his series averages in terms of attempts ang score.

Fajardo didn’t stay too long on the floor but SMB already hit the double-digit advantage with over 4 minutes left in the first.

ROS rallied in the dying moments of inaugural period but SMB maintained its composure as well as its lead, 32-26 for the very first time in the semis.

Since the playoffs started, Rey Nambatac has been playing elite basketball especially from three point territory. The former Letran Knight even won the Best Player of the Game award twice.

Nambatac’s offensive efforts gave his team the lead in the 2nd quarter with the help of veteran Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga.

Chris McCullough who had a stellar game 3 performance with 51 points, all of a sudden became tranquil in this game. 23 minutes had gone by and the former Brooklyn Net had only produced 9 points.

McCullough’s sub par showing placed San Miguel behind Rain Or Shine, 44-41 at the half.

The ROS young guns, Jayvee Mocon and Rey Nambatac owned the 3rd quarter and turned the tides in their team’s favor. With 8 more minutes remaining in the quarter, Painters’ margin went up to 13.

San Miguel’s three point shooting was really off tonight and the reason why the Beermen kept trailing the Elasto Painters.

SMB, through Alex Cabagnot’s resiliency, was able to cut the lead to just 3, 75-72 after the penultimate period.

Chris McCullough came back to life mid of the third and carried on at the fourth. The SMB reinforcement had 24 with over 9 minutes left in the final chapter.

Rain Or Shine was still connecting from the outside. Likewise, San Miguel finally showed up beyond the ark and regained the lead at the 2-minute warning.

Down to the final stretch of the game, SMB had a very slim 3-point advantage. Rain Or Shine tried to tie several times but missed a handful of three point attempts.

Once again, the Elasto Painters had a huge chance to extend the game into overtime. But on the last possession, San Miguel intercepted a pass and it was all over for Rain Or Shine as the Beermen escaped with a 98-95 win.
