'Bagyong Hanna', LPA, Typhoon Krosa PAGASA weather update August 8, 2019

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon 'Hanna' (international name: Lekima) has intensified further as it continues to move towards the direction of Japan's Southern Ryukyu Islands, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 5:00 am bulletin on Thursday, August 8, 2019.

The outer rainbands of 'Bagyong Hanna' will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains and gusty winds over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 still up on these areas.

Occasional gusty conditions will continue over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

Today, moderate to heavy monsoon rains may affect MIMAROPA, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas.

Tomorrow (August 9), moderate to heavy monsoon rains may affect Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Western Visayas.

'Bagyong Hanna' remains less likely to make landfall on any part of the country and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow morning (Friday).

At 4:00 am today, the eye of Typhoon 'Hanna' was located based on all available data at 485 km East Northeast of Basco, Batanes.

'Hanna' has maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph. It is moving Northwest at 15 kph.

At 4:00 am today, the Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 270 km West of Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Based on all available data, this weather disturbance remains less likely to develop into a Tropical Depression.

Meanwhile, Typhoon 'Krosa' was estimated at 1,940 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon (outside PAR) with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 150 km/h. It is moving Northwest slowly and is not expected to enter the PAR.
