MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will discuss the administration’s achievements and legacy for the remainder of his term as he delivers his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) this Monday, July 22, 2019 at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
TIME OF THE ANNUAL CEREMONY
The traditional ceremony will start at 3:30 p.m. as the president will arrive by air or land. He will receive arrival honors to be led by Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Benjamin Madrigal Jr, together with the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate and House of Representatives, who will escort the President towards the rear entrance as they walk past the honor guards.

After which, the joint session of 18th Congress will be called to order and the national anthem will be sung by Broadway singer Arman Ferrer.
The President’s SONA 2019 is expected to start at 4:00 p.m. Based on rehearsal, this would be a 45-minute speech.
Palace said Duterte to stick to his speech and that it will be “short” and off-script commentary would also be short and still related to the prepared speech.
Meanwhile, blockbuster movie director Joyce Bernal will direct again Duterte's SONA pro bono. She hopes to capture a “hopeful” mood in her direction of the event. Previous SONAs of the iron-fist leader were directed by internationally-acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza.
SONA 2019 MESSAGE, HIGHLIGHTS
Duterte will tackle the promises he made on fighting corruption, illegal drugs, criminality, and rebellion. "We can also expect that he will speak about other major issues, such as that of the West Philippine Sea, ways to sustain the growth in our economy, as well as his legislative agenda," presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said on Sunday.
"Security will be the one of the focal points of President Rody Duterte's speech in his 4th State of the Nation Address tomorrow, as well as his legacy for the remaining three years of his term," PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said via Facebook page of President Communications Operations Office (PCOO).
LIVE STREAM AND COVERAGE
The SONA 2019 will be aired via live stream on the government's channel PTV, Presidential Communications Facebook page, and RTVM YouTube channel. The hashtags #DuterteSONA2019 and #DuterteLegacy will be used for social media postings of the government.
Mainstream media like ABS-CBN, GMA-7, TV5 and CNN Philippines are expected to rely on centralized livestreaming service of RTVM for their updates and coverage.
