MANILA, Philippines – A state university in Iloilo is the country's top performing school in the recent nursing board exam.
The West Visayas State University (WVSU) was hailed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as the No. 1 nursing school in the June 2019 nurse licensure exam (NLE) as per Commission Resolution No. 2017-1058 (C) series of 2017.
WVSU has a 100% passing rate as all of their 163 examinees successfully hurdled the NLE.
To top it all off, they also dominated the topnotchers list as 12 of their graduates bagged 8 spots out of this year's top 10.
Here are WVSU's 12 topnotchers in the June 2019 NLE:
Top 1: Almira Louise Olete Hinsoy (87.40%)
Top 2: Dennise Kim Bulquiren Luig (87.20%)
Top 3: Michaelle Christiane Cabag Con-el (87%)
Top 4: Gerone Marie Lorenzo Saquian (86.80%)
Top 5: Shaniah Grace Brana Condag, Joseph Dann Tesoro Enero Jr, Kaila Mae Laurente Macairan (86.60%)

Top 9: Jenrose Victor Buenvenida, Rona Jane Susarno Lanzuela (85.80%)
Top 10: Angel Mae Tan Malones, Tristan James Saclauso Amaguin (85.60%)
WVSU president Dr. Luis M. Sorolla Jr, couldn't be more happier of their achievements. He confirmed that the topnotchers will receive cash awards, a certificate and a medal from the university.
Sorolla shared the secrets to the university's impressive performance. One is the College of Nursing's (CON) "rigid" selection process of students.
The University president admitted there are many who applied but only the best are chosen.
"Damo sila naga-compete and out of those nga nag-apply, we get the best,” Sorolla said.
Other factors cited by Sorolla were the University's "quality instruction" and the hospital experience that students get in CON.
Topnotcher’s dream
For Almira Louise Olete Hinsoy, bagging the top 1 in the June 2019 NLE was truly a dream come true.
She said, "I remember the first time I dreamt of becoming a nurse. I was in Grade 1 and thought it was all about wearing white uniforms and a cap…"
Hinsoy, who shared the top spot with Jeremiah Paula Austria Caceres from Angeles University Foundation (AUF) described how difficult and equally rewarding her experience was.
"College life was never easy but every tear, failure and sacrifice was worth it,” Hinsoy said.
For the June 2019 NLE, 5,059 examinees passed out of the 9,691 takers (52.20% passing rate).
Xavier University and Silliman University also bagged the highest rank in the top performing schools list, 100% passing rate.
