MANILA, Philippines – Veteran actor Eddie Garcia is still on comatose while his family agreed to a DNR (do-not-resuscitate) status.
The family of Garcia, through their spokesperson, has announced an update on the actor's health status.
Dr. Tony Rebosa on Friday evening stated, "Please be informed that the family of Mr. Eddie Garcia has not authorized nor has it consented to withdrawal of life support."
"They have however agree to place him on DNR (do-not-resuscitate) status. Thank you," he added.
The 90-year-old actor met an accident as he tripped while shooting a scene for a GMA-7 series on June 8.
It was earlier rumored that Garcia had a heart attack on set but their family doctor, Enrique Lagman, debunked it and confirmed the actor sustained injuries.
"The doctors ruled out heart attack and stroke as proven by several validating tests done in Mary Johnston hospital. He is in critical condition due to severe cervical fracture," Dr. Lagman said.
Garcia sustained a severe cervical fracture which led to a "comatose state with minimal spontaneous respiration."
On Thursday, June 13, the medical bulletin posted Garcia's status to be "still in a comatose state" and was already on life support, "dependent" on a ventilator and medication to help control his blood pressure.
Lilibeth Romero, Garcia’s long-time partner, confirmed the family's decision to put the actor on DNR status, as they hold on for a miracle.
“I will hang on until he’s there," she said.
Director Santiago Garcia, the brother of veteran actor Eddie Garcia has asked their family, friends the public to pray for Garcia’s healing. A mass and prayer healing were held on Friday.
