A 26-year-old aspiring businesswoman recently became a lawyer, inspiring people with her success story as she hopes to serve the nation.
Abigail Joyce Ngo Co comes from a Chinese family. In hopes of helping with the family business, Abigail took up BS Accountancy in 2009. She graduated in 2013 and would become a certified public accountant (CPA) at the age of 20 just a few months later.
To help expand the family business, Abigail took both the real estate brokers exam and the real estate appraisers exam in 2014; she passed in both tests, obtaining a license for both fields.
Thinking that she’s still young and had the potential to achieve more, Abigail dreamed about the things she could still accomplish. In her belief that a lawyer could protect the people around her, Abigail decided to become one.
Her mother, Joy Co, revealed that the young woman realized that she wanted to be a lawyer for the people, for the nation and for God. Thus, Abigail enrolled in law school in 2014.
A consistent honor student at Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City, southern Philippines, Abigail graduated as Top 2 of their class in 2018. Just like many aspiring lawyers, Abigail went to Manila to review for the Bar Exams she took last November 2018 – and she would be among the passers whose names were released early in May 2019.
Her advice to law students and future bar takers:
“First, Never Give up. The path to becoming a lawyer is never easy, but it is those who are strong hearted who succeed. It always seems impossible until it is done.
Second, Study Hard and well. It is not about the quantity of readings but the quality of it.
Last and most importantly, Pray and trust God. In all my years of study, I always believe in the Bible verse in Philippians 4:13 which states ‘I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.’”
Congratulations, Abigail!
