MANILA, Philippines – Giving birth is one of the most painful and challenging things a woman could ever experience, but one woman managed to take the Physician Board Exams while in labor – and she passed!
Eunice Stefanelle Atianzar Sibuyan had a difficult pregnancy and was advised for bedrest because of the delicate situation. Yet this strong lady not only managed to keep her baby to full term but also managed to let it hold on for over 12 hours after her water broke so she could finish taking the Physician Board Exams.
A week before the board exams, Sibuyan would grow quite anxious after learning she was already 1-2 cm dilated and 60% effaced. This meant she would be in labor soon, but she didn’t want to miss the exam dates.
She began to experience spotting on the day before the last 2 days of the exam. She also felt labor pains and knew that the baby will be born soon, yet she hoped to still be able to complete all the tests before the baby came out.
The final trial was when her bag of water broke at 2AM on the last day of the exams. If anyone knew about it, they would have rushed her to the hospital; thus, she chose to keep it a secret even from the baby’s father. She was determined to complete the tests before giving birth, but she told him to wait at the testing center.
The next hours were harrowing as she struggled to take the day’s tests while trying to deal with the contractions – and also trying her best to keep the pain to herself so the proctor won’t notice.
With the contractions getting faster at a regular interval of every 3 minutes, Sibuyan completed the last test in 20 minutes. She was the first in the building to complete the exams and she hurried outside, fully aware that the baby is truly coming out any minute now.
Because she felt that she really couldn’t hold it any longer, they stopped trying to take a cab and was rushed to the testing center’s hospital. It was a good thing the testing center had one because she was already fully dilated.
Rushed to the Delivery Room at 3:15PM, the baby was out by 3:28PM! The baby had waited for his mom to complete her tests…
Three days later, they received the best news: she is now a licensed physician! Even though she had a difficult time throughout the tests as she was in active labor, Sibuyan still managed to pass the board exams. Congratulations!

The baby, Graeden Euri, had to be taken back to the hospital for Neonatal Sepsis after spending more than 12 hours inside the womb after the bag of water had burst, but the baby was also a fighter like his mom and was soon out of danger.
