The student who recently became viral for his strength and determination to graduate passed away on Wednesday, March 27.
Joemar Kenik Mangkok captured the hearts of netizens after his graduation photo became viral. Mangkok was photographed smiling, on a wheelchair and an oxygen tank as he received his college diploma. Mangkok battled rheumatic heart disease for five years. He was 25 years old.
The sad news was confirmed by Mangkok’s sister Lyn Mangkok-Ayob. She said, “Dito po siya ngayon [nakaburol] sa bahay ng mama namin. Dito po inuwi.”
“Ang dami nga pong tao ngayon dito mam, simula po kahapon nung nasa ospital pa kami, marami na rin daw pong tao dito na parang naghihintay nga po kay Joemar. Hanggang ngayon po marami pa ring tao,” she added.
On Facebook, Ayob also thanked everyone who prayed for her brother.
Despite being critically ill, Mangkok attended his graduation last Friday, March 22. He received his college diploma for the degree in Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education Major in Mathematics at the Southern Mindanao Institute of Technology Inc. in Datu Paglas, Maguindanao.
