MANILA, Philippines – The country's national team Gilas Pilipinas marches for a make-or-break game against Kazakhstan at the close of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers on Sunday, February 24 at the Saryarka Velodrome in Astana, Kazakhstan. Watch the game on livestream here.
The Philippines improved its record to 6-5 or still at 4th place in Group F after their win against Qatar on Thursday. Gilas Pilipinas now targets to become the "best 4th placer" in both Groups E and F to get the World Cup slot.
UPDATE: Gilas Pilipinas beats Kazakhstan, books the last ticket to FIBA World Cup
Gilas must beat Kazakhstan and hope that either Lebanon or Jordan drop their games against Korea and New Zealand, respectively.
While there are a lot of complications in entering the World Cup, Gilas coach Yeng Guiao insists they're focusing on the thing that they have control over with.
"Di natin kontrolado yung ibang factors. Wala na tayong magagawa, wala na tayong pakialam sa ibang teams. We can only hope and pray after taking our own responsibility," Guiao told pba.ph.
June Mar Fajardo will lead the Nationals in their crucial match tonight. Also making the lineup are Japeth Aguilar, Mark Barroca, Andray Blatche, Jayson Castro, Poy Erram, Marcio Lassiter, Paul Lee, Gabe Norwood, Troy Rosario and Thirdy Ravena.
Tip-off time at 8:30 p.m. (10:30 p.m. in Manila).
