MANILA, Philippines – Two schools in the Philippines made it to the list of 1,000 top universities in the world, under the THE World University Rankings 2019 released by data provider Times Higher Education (THE).
The two schools also made it to the Asia-Pacific University Ranking 2019. The ranking of these universities in the Asia-Pacific reflects the region’s growing strength in the higher education sector, THE announced. The overall ranking in the region features over 300 universities from 13 different countries located across East Asia, South-east Asia and Oceania.

Philippine Schools
In 2018, the University of the Philippines (UP) had already made it to the list, ranking in the 151-160 bracket in the Asia-Pacific University Ranking and making it to the 601-800 bracket in the world.
But UP managed to rise to the 101-110 bracket in the Asia-Pacific University Ranking 2019 and up the 501-600 bracket for the THE World University Rankings 2019.
Based on data from Times Higher Education, the De La Salle University (DLSU) was not included in last year’s list but the university managed to improve greatly, making the cut this year under the 201-250 bracket on the Asia-Pacific University Ranking 2019. DLSU ranks at the 801-1000 bracket in the THE World University Rankings 2019.
Top 5 Universities in the Asia-Pacific Region
Japan has the most universities that made it to the 2019 Asia-Pacific University Ranking, having a total of 103 universities; however, none of these schools made it to the Top 5. Meanwhile, China ranks second in the number of schools that made it to the list – but had the distinction of having the school that ranked as #1 on the list.
