Despite the long day, over 1 million devotees patiently waited at the church to welcome the statue of the Black Nazarene which is believed to be miraculous. Many of the devotees were barefoot and carrying white handkerchiefs or towels which they waved as the statue passed.

There were many who also tried to get up the carroza that carried the image.

The shortest route between the grandstand and the church was at 4km but the procession weaved through several streets around Manila, taking it on journey that was nearly 6km long.

Traslacion 2019 was completed an hour faster than the recent years, but this was likely due to the procession changing its route and skipping two streets this year.

Metro Manila Police Chief Guillermo Eleazar estimates that a total of 4 million people attended the many festivities related to the Feast of the Black Nazarene, including the traditional ‘Pahalik’ and thanksgiving mass.

Aside from the 1 million devotees estimated to have waited at the Church and its vicinity, the police chief said that they estimate over 2.5 million people directly took part in the procession.

As the Traslacion came to an end, the Philippine Red Cross reported that the agency has catered to 1,296 patients for different medical emergencies. Over 600 individuals had to be treated for high blood pressure while the rest were for other minor cases, including laceration, sprain, fainting, puncture wounds, and breathing difficulties.

There were also patients rushed to nearby hospitals.

While Traslacion 2019 was mostly deemed a success, with only a few untoward incidents happening throughout the procession, netizens and the cops called on the devotees to hopefully “clean as you go” as there were a number of places filled with trash after the devotees left.
