MANILA, Philippines – A teacher has gone viral for sketching each of her students and presented it as Christmas gift.
Coming back to the school after the holidays was no easy task for almost all students. But for a class of Grade 9 pupils at the Holy Redeemer School of Cabuyao in Banlic, Cabuyao, Laguna, a pleasant surprise awaited them during the first class of 2019.
The students were surprised to see portraits fill up their room and they were no ordinary portraits. All thanks to their talented English teacher Roselyn Barcoma, each student was treated to a portrait done in charcoal.
Teacher Roselyn quickly became viral for her talent and for doing the extra mile for her students. In a viral post on Facebook, photos of Teacher Roselyn’s 27 sketches of her students were commended as more and more netizens were impressed.
Barcoma shared that it took her more than a month to finish all 27 portraits. She started last December 1, 2018 and finished the last one on January 6. The talented teacher said it was not easy but she wanted to make her students “happy and get inspired.”
Teacher Roselyn was elated when she presented her “special gifts.” She recalled, “We had class first and talked about what they did on Christmas vacation. Then I made them go out of the [classroom]. That’s when I placed the portraits on their desks.”
“At first they were speechless. Then they thanked me. They were amazed. I was glad they liked the gift,” the thoughtful teacher added.
The teacher who had been in the profession for 16 years encouraged her fellow educators to never lose sight of their goal. Teacher Roselyn said, “To my fellow teachers, our work maybe tiring, but being able to inspire young minds is a priceless opportunity.”
