Pregnancy and child delivery are wonderful moments in a woman’s life, yet these can sometimes bring complications that put the mother and/or child’s life in danger.
Child delivery can be harrowing, especially when there are no medical professionals to help. This is the reason why a flight attendant has been hailed a hero for delivering a baby on a PAL flight from Dammam, Saudi Arabia to Manila, Philippines.
Philippine Airlines (PAL) employee Paulo Infante shared how his friend, flight attendant Marigold Parreño helped deliver a baby on board the flight, which was still 4 hours away from Manila.
“What a very proud moment for PAL! FA Marigold Parreño assisted a passenger in labor during PR 683 (DMM to MNL) and successfully helped her deliver a healthy baby girl four hours before the plane landed in Manila. Yan ang BPA! Friend ko yan! #BuongPusongAlaga #FlyPAL,” Infante wrote in a post on January 26.
Though the airline has equipment for medical emergencies, and the crew are all trained to respond to emergencies, the mother was lucky that Parreño was on board that flight because she’s also a registered nurse. Her previous experience made way for a safer delivery for the baby despite the limited resources they had on the aircraft.
“Mabilis yung pangyayari kaya kung ano lang yung instinct mo to help the mom and the baby, ginawa ko na lang po,” Parreño said.
Thankfully, everyone was supportive. The other flight crew as well as some passengers assisted in the delivery, making everything as smooth as possible.
“Nagtulungan po kaming lahat para talagang yung baby maging safe saka yung mom,” Parreño added.
Netizens were impressed by the flight attendant’s actions. The company was also proud of their flight crew.
“They are safety and service practitioners who live and breathe Buong Pusong Alaga. With presence of mind and teamwork and genuine care, they succeed in answering the call of the situation,” Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said in a statement.
