MANILA, Philippines – “Education is the key to success.” – Anonymous
In a country like the Philippines where there are many poor people, education is truly the key to success as having a college degree often makes a big difference when it comes to finding a good-paying job.
While not everyone is born in a family who could easily send them to college, a lot of students have found a way to support themselves by doing some sideline business or becoming a working student.
In Baguio City, a young student of the University of the Cordilleras recently went viral for his determination to be in school. Identified as Jonel M. Tejedo, the student is taking up Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.
Born in a poor family, Jonel knew he had to also help his parents if he wanted to finish his studies as they could not afford to send him to school. Thus, even back when he was still in high school, Jonel already sold chicharon, balut, itlog ng pugo, and other items to earn money.
For his determination, many of his classmates and teachers admired this young man.
Now that he is in college, he does not feel embarrassed to continue selling these items during his free time. After school, he rushes to pick up the goods and begins selling food in offices and around town while still dressed in his uniform.
Maria Michelle Awing-tauli was among those who were impressed by this admirable young man.
“Was so speechless when i saw him coming down the stairs. I really admire him. Despite his condition he manage to sacrifice and earn by doing this. May the young generation imitate his perseverance.. He came from school and need to roam around to sell ballot, pugo and chicharon. The road may be long and bumpy but success is still at the end of the line,” Maria Michelle shared on her Facebook account.
The post went viral, with netizens wishing this young man success in life. Others praised him for not just begging for money but for trying his best to earn an honest buck. Kudos, Jonel!
