MANILA, Philippines – Miss Universe Philippines Catriona Gray was a total showstopper during the national costume competition of Miss Universe, tonight December 10.

Donning a big “parol” with an intricately-made ensemble of beautiful “pintados” all over her body, Catriona wowed the audience. True to the hint she gave a few days back, Catriona represented the diverse culture of the Philippines.

The “parol” represented Luzon, her “Pintados” pattern showcased art of Visayas while her handmade brass accessories and T'boli headdress were reminiscent of Mindanao.

In an interview, Catriona described the vision behind her national costume, “I want to represent the Philippines in all forms. When people see the Philippine sash, it’s just a word on a sash, but really, we’re made up of so many different places and so much different aspects to our culture.”

The impressive look was made by Jearson Demavivas, with artistic inputs from Carlos Buendia, Jojo Bragais and also Catriona.

The beauty queen, a lover of art herself, admitted that they put a lot of thought and research to her over-all look. Catriona said, “We researched it. It was really important to me to make sure na lahat ng aspects ng national costume were authentic. We researched talaga. We consulted historians.”

Catriona's national costume was truly a work of art and netizens strongly agreed after her photos immediately trended online.

Watch out for Catriona and the other girls as they compete for the title of Miss Universe 2018 this coming December 17.
