MANILA, Philippines – The Malacañang Palace congratulated Catriona Gray for winning the Miss Universe crown on Monday, December 17, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Gray bested 93 other candidates to clinch the Philippines' fourth Miss Universe title.

“Ms. Gray truly made the entire Philippines proud when she sashayed on the global stage and showcased the genuine qualities defining a Filipina beauty: confidence, grace, intelligence and strength in the face of tough challenges,” Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.
Panelo also highlights the influence of Gray's triumph in the international stage.
“Ms. Gray’s triumph sets the bar high in empowering more Filipino women to believe in themselves and to fight for their own place in the universe. We salute and admire her victory,” the Palace official said.
After the preliminaries, Catriona Gray was highly favored to win the prestigious pageant.
Previous titles were brough home by Pia Wurtzbach in 2015, Margie Moran in 1973, and Gloria Diaz in 1969.
