MANILA – The Philippines' bet Catriona Gray is one step closer to the Miss Universe 2018 crown.
Gray made it to the Top 20 spots during the beauty pageant’s ongoing coronation event at the Impact, Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday, December 17 Manila time.
The Top 20 was determined prior to the pageant's night. There are five women from each group of countries—Europe, Americas, and Asia and Africa and and five wildcards which came from any continental grouping.

The Top 20 semi-finalists will then give 15-second "opening statement" to the judges and viewing public, after which the judges will eliminate ten contestants and move on to the top 10.
Catriona Gray is hoping to bring home the Philippines' fourth Miss Universe crown. The country so far has 3 Miss Universe titlists: Pia Wurtzbach in 2015, Margie Moran in 1973, and Gloria Diaz in 1969.
