MANILA, Philippines – A lot of malls these days have raffle promos where shoppers can win lots of cool prizes; not just gadgets like laptops and cellphones but even big-ticket items like a brand new car!
But how many of these raffle draws are for real, really? Some netizens could not help but ask that after seeing a rather suspicious video of what appears to be a rigged raffle promo for a brand new car at an SM store.
The video was supposedly taken at SM Bacoor in Bacoor, Cavite.
According to netizen Norman Sañez Ramirez who shared the video on his timeline, the clip was originally shared as a live video on the SM Bacoor Facebook page but this was later deleted after receiving flak from many netizens who believe the video was evidence that the raffle draw was rigged.
In the clip, a tambiolo filled with tickets could be seen in the background while several people, SM employees, were gathered around it. A woman in white, a DTI representative, could be seen standing at one side of the tambiolo; she’s supposed to monitor the proceedings to make sure that the raffle draw will go smoothly and so that the SM staff couldn’t falsify the results.
But Norman and many of the netizens who later watched the clip could not help but notice that the guy who was supposed to pick the winning ticket had his left hand seemingly glued to his pants throughout the draw. His left hand never left his pocket as he reached into the tambiolo to pick the winning ticket.
At one point, a ticket fell to the ground but this was returned to the tambiolo.
Then, after a few seconds, the guy took out the winning ticket – but his left hand quickly left his pocket and ‘helped’ cover the winning ticket as he gave it to the woman in white.
While this could have been an innocent move, the timing was so perfect in a cover-up that netizens claimed the raffle draw was rigged and that the winner had been picked beforehand by these people.
It is unknown whether the winner is related to any of the people in the video but netizens hope the management would investigate this matter to stop netizens from wondering if SM raffle draws were for real.
