There’s nothing sweeter for an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) than coming back home to the Philippines to spend time with family and friends, enjoying the fruits of their labor before heading back to the country where they are working in.
For many OFWs, homecomings are truly sweet because they spend many years away from their families. While it is easier these days to communicate with people back home, thanks to the internet and modern gadgets, there is nothing that compares to being with family in person.
So, when OFWs come home, they want to make the moment extra special for their family. Many take their families to fun tours and vacations or treat them to things they had always wished for.
But even those who are just working in other islands in the Philippines for years make it a point to come home and be with their families once in a while, when time and money allow.
For John Tingcang Casping, his homecoming did not come with a grand fanfare but he wanted to make it special for his parents who live in Pagadian City, southern Philippines. So, with the help of family and friends, he planned what he would do when he gets back home.
Someone was tasked to bring his parents to a Jollibee outlet but arranged beforehand for John to be allowed to serve his parents as part of the service crew. Thankfully, the management loved the idea and let him do it for his parents.
When the food was ready, John brought it to the table while wearing a mask over half of his face.
To complete his disguise and not easily give himself away, John was lent a Jollibee cap for service crew. Though he was not wearing uniform just like the crew, his parents had no idea that he was not part of the staff.
But his mother later revealed that she did think of him when she saw the crew bringing their food. Little did she know that it was really her son in that service crew disguise!
As soon as he took off the mask, his parents immediately recognized him. The two were ecstatic and cried tears of joy as they were once again reunited with their son.
