MANILA, Philippines – Ranging in age from 9 to 15 years old, a group of minors ganged up on an old man and even pulled him out of a jeep in an attempt to steal his bag.
Video of the incident was shared on social media by licensed engineer Nathaniel Javier Jamolin who was riding a bus at the time when he noticed the group of kids climbing unto a passenger jeep bound for Baclaran, with plate number TXH 214.
At first, Jamolin thought that the kids were just trying to beg for food and money from the passengers. Since there had been another viral video showing kids crying their heart out after not getting food from the passengers, Jamolin took out his phone to take a video of the incident.
Much to his surprise, the minors did not climb the jeep to beg for money but to actually rob the passengers! There was some commotion inside the jeep that was not visible in the video but seconds later, several passengers went off the jeep and rushed away from the kids.
But an old man left inside the jeep wasn’t as fast or agile as the younger passengers. This made him an easy target for the group.
The young people had no qualms at pulling the old man out of the passenger jeepney. The poor old man hit the ground with a thud but the group had no mercy for him. They ganged up on the old man, trying their best to steal the small eco bag he was holding.
Shocked over what he witnessed, Jamolin thought of helping the old man but the bus already moved forward. Sadly, the adults in the street only watched the incident and no one helped out.
Jamolin reported the matter to the DSWD and the police; this led to the arrest of 7 minors involved in the incident. They were still wearing the same clothes they had on while attacking the old man.
MPD-PIO Spokesperson Supt.Manuel Carlo Magno announced that the group was arrested through the follow-up operation held by Paco Police Community Precinct (PCP). Because they were minors, the group will be turned over to the DSWD.
