MANILA, Philippines – Team Philippines faces its toughest opponent, the mighty China in the quarterfinals of the women’s volleyball competition on Wednesday, August 29 at the GBK Indoor Tennis Hall, Jakarta Indonesia. While the chance of winning against the world's best volleybelles is slim, Philippines is expected to banner the best players, preliminaries' top scorers Alyssa Valdez and Jaja Santiago, to match China's 6-foot-6 attacker Zhu Ting.

The Chinese players are gold medalists in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, having 13 Asian golds and four World Cup titles.

The grueling test is set at 7:00 pm (8 p.m. in Philippine time).

UPDATE: The Philippine women’s volleyball team bowed out of the tournament, medal contention after suffering a straight-sets loss to China, 25-15, 25-9, 25-7. They will still compete in the classification round.


Philippines had a historic win against Hong Kong in the prelims but was toppled by Thailand and Japan in straight sets and host country Indonesia in 4 sets.

The country's delegation is also bannered by mainstays Aby Maraño, the team captain and UAAP Season 80 Finals MVP Dawn Macandili.

Completing the lineup are Kim Fajardo, Cha Cruz, Kim Dy and Majoy Baron of F2 Logistics, Creamline’s Jia Morado, Ces Molina and Mika Reyes of Petron, Denden Lazaro of Cocolife, and Foton’s Dindin Manabat and Maika Ortiz.
