Weddings and special events are certainly livelier if you have a jolly host who can keep the party going. But hiring a host, especially a professional host you are not friends or related with, involves money.
You are expected to pay the host’s talent fee (TF), provide transportation and accommodation (especially in out-of-town events), and make sure the host also gets to eat at the event.
But one bride who didn’t have enough money to pay for the host’s TF insists on getting one, but wants the host to pay for her own accommodation to the wedding at a resort in Batangas.
The host, Althea Español Leonen, shared their conversation on Facebook and this had quickly gone viral.
The bride, whom Althea did not name as she doesn’t believe in public shaming, told the host that she was recommended by a friend. The bride wants to book her as host for the wedding on September 15 which will be held at Aquatico Beach Resort & Hotel in Laiya, Batangas.
The bride instructed Althea to book her own room so she wouldn’t have a hard time during the trip and that she would have a place to change for the sunset wedding.
But when Althea clarified the booking, it turned out that the bride expected her to pay for her own accommodation because she wasn’t part of the entourage! She was told that the couple will provide her with transportation and that was actually all that she would get from the gig.
Instead of paying her TF, the bride haughtily told her that she would just recommend Althea to her friends who might need a host in the future.
Shocked, Althea told the bride that hosting wasn’t easy, especially because she needs to travel several hours for this wedding.
But the bride insisted that she wouldn’t pay for Althea’s TF and accommodation because she wasn’t part of the entourage and they didn’t have a budget to pay for it, anyway. She also insisted on the free TF because the friend who recommended the host said she accepts bookings where she doesn’t get paid.
Althea clarified that she does accept free bookings but only for friends! But her friends don’t really let her go home empty-handed, anyway.
Angry that her ‘offer’ was rejected, the bride told Althea that she was sure the host wasn’t a good one and that she doesn’t even look good on her Instagram pictures! She also belittled the host’s TF, forgetting that she doesn’t even have the budget to pay for one.
Keeping her temper in check, Althea told the bride that hosts are often paid a minimum of Php5,000 but she sometimes lowers her TF to Php2,000. She would have said ‘yes’ to the lower rate but the bride had insulted her; thus, she told the bride to just find someone else to host the party.
