It seems that everyone is on social media these days, particularly Facebook – even kids and older adults!
But while social media has become a rather helpful tool in getting us connected with a lot of people, not just with family and friends but also with those who are far away from us, whether old friends or strangers.
Yet social media has also become a tool that divided us, a tool that ruined relationships. While it brought us closer to people in faraway places, it has also taken us farther from those who are physically around us.
One wife realized this – and unfriended her husband! And this eventually had a happy ending.
Nicole Joanne Meilat used to be Facebook friends with her husband, much like most couples are. She constantly tagged him in various posts but would soon get hurt when he never liked or commented on any of her posts when he would easily do so on his other Facebook friends’ posts.
“You know what hurt my feelings the most, kapag sa post ng iba or sa non-sense na bagay kahit hindi siya nakatag pustahan makikita mo may comment siya #Coolkid. Hahaha!” Nicole lamented.
Then, she decided to unfriend him.
“That's why I decided to unfriend him, kaloka inabot ata ng ilang linggo bago niya narealized d na kami friend! Since then unconsciously I stopped tagging him, I stopped seeing his post and lastly d ko nakikita mga comment niya hahahahaha. Ang gaan sa feelings!
And narealize ko sobrang unhealthy ng Social Media sa magpartner kailangan scripted dahil alam mong may ibang nakakabasa. Yung tipong pag nag i love you ka, kailangan may mag i love you too. Ganon kastressful haha!”
Of course, when he realized what she had done, Nicole’s husband tried his best to get her to ‘friend’ him back but she had already made up her mind; amazingly enough, this strengthened their relationship.
With no means to ‘see’ each other on social media, they had longer, better conversations at home.
“To cut the story short, mas naging intimate yung relationship namin kasi parang may namimiss kami lagi sa isa't isa kahit magkasama na kami sa iisang bubong.”
It started as a sad story that had a happy ending… but despite the better relationship now, Nicole said she’s not going to accept him on Facebook again!
