MANILA, Philippines – Local government units (LGUs) announced suspension of classes for Monday, July 9, 2018, due to bad weather condition brought by Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and the threat of strong Typhoon Maria.
In a bulletin issued on Sunday, July 8, PAGASA said occasional rains is expected over Metro Manila, the rest of Western Visayas, and western sections of CALABARZON and Central Luzon due to enhanced Habagat.

The state weather bureau added that strong Typhoon Maria may enter PAR on Monday and will have the local name "Gardo."
'Maria' may enhance Habagat, which will bring heavy rains over MIMAROPA and Panay Island until Tuesday (July 10).
"Residents especially those living in low-lying and in mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate measures against possible flooding and landslides due to heavy rains, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates," PAGASA said.

Based on automatic class suspension guideline by DepEd, LGUs have the authority to declare local suspensions in areas where there is no storm signal.
Meanwhile, cancellation of classes in the tertiary level especially in the private institutions will be at discretion of school administrators.
