MANILA, Philippines – A Grade 7 student was pronounced dead upon arrival after he was mauled by a schoolmate in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro on Thursday, July 5.
The Mimaropa Police Regional Office confirmed that the victim, a 15-year-old male student was mauled to death by a 16-year-old schoolmate. The victim was said to be busy watching a badminton and volleyball game at their school Aurelio Arago National High School in Barangay Leido on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
The suspect arrived and “mauled the victim several times." When the victim fell on the ground, he was already unconscious. Witness to the incident revealed that the suspect attacked the victim "without any justifiable cause."
The suspect, Grade 10 student, tried to escape but was still arrested after a “hot pursuit operation.” He is now under the custody of Victoria Municipal Police Station.
Since the suspect is a minor, the police will have to turn him over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
Last year, a 17-year-old student from Manuel I. Santos Memorial National High School in Taytay, Rizal was also mauled to death allegedly by a group of his classmates. John Mark "Moy-Moy" A. Lucero came home from school dripping in blood with bruises all over his body. He was rushed to the hospital where he fell into a coma before losing his life.
