MANILA, Philippines – A netizen couldn’t help but express his anger and frustration after finding an unattended toddler left inside a car while her parents go partying.
On Facebook, Jasper Pascual shared a video of a visibly distressed toddler trapped inside a car. Pascual shared that he was on his way to his car from Metrowalk in Pasig City when he heard a faint cry of a baby coming from a Toyota Fortuner. The Fortuner was heavily tinted so he was a bit hesitant to check inside. But when he was about to enter his car, a loud knock came from the window. Much to his horror, he saw a child alone inside a car asking for help.
Pascual wrote, “Nagulat ako kasi walang kasama yung baby. Nasusuffocate na siya.” To make this worse, the car’s engine was turned off with no aircon at all.
Pascual was so shocked that he asked the security guard to find the owner of the Fortuner. Another car beside the Fortuner said that she had heard of the cry but thought that it was just a kitten.
When the parents came, they were also frustrated with the commotion. The mother arrived first followed by the father 10 minutes after. Pascual said that they even reprimanded the guard for calling them. But the netizen shared that he was proud of the guard for standing his ground by saying, “‘Di po ma’am, mali po talaga kayo pwede po namin kayo ipahuli kasi bata yang iniwan niyo diyan.”
Pascual apologized for the profanities in the video and admitted that it was only due to frustration and panic. He said that he was so close to breaking the car’s window due to his anger towards the irresponsible “walwal” parents. Pascual said the parents were also visibly drunk so he didn’t want to cause an altercation. He wrote, “Kasi baka magspark pa ng gulo. Syempre nakainom din magulang nun. Kaya pinaubaya ko na sa guard.”
In the end, Pascual gave a stern reminder to parents’ to be responsible. It was such a horror to see a sweating 2-year-old child inside a car crying for help. He wrote, “Kung magwalwal kayo, huwag niyo isama yung bata. Kung yung aso nga iniwan sa kotse ng walang bintana di na makatarungan eh bata pa kaya na 2 years old.”
More and more netizens were angered with the video and it has gone viral with over 161,000 reactions as of press time.
Law prohibits leaving unattended children inside car
Last year, a bill that prohibits the leaving of children 8-years old and below unattended inside motor vehicles has passed the House of Representatives. The House approved the final reading of House Bill 6570 that states, “a child must always be attended by someone 18 years or older onboard a motor vehicle with engine running or the key is inside the vehicle.”
The penalty ranges from P5,000-50,000 and even include a suspension or a revocation of driver’s license.
