MANILA, Philippines – It was close to midnight when ABS-CBN news anchor Jacque Manabat hailed a Grab ride to bring her home but she was shocked when the driver canceled the booking for the lame reason that he’s a ‘solid Kapuso’ which meant he supports her rival network (GMA).
Feeling rather amused (and certainly a bit pissed off) over the incident, Jacque shared screenshots of the canceled booking and her conversation with the driver, hiding his photo and other personal details for privacy concerns.
In the text messages exchanged between the two, Jacque instructed the driver to enter the ABS-CBN compound via Esguerra Ave. and to tell the guard that she was waiting at the lobby. The driver replied with a question mark; thus, she once again told him she was inside the TV network’s compound.
It was then that the driver canceled the booking, telling her (in all caps at that!) he’s a SOLID KAPUSO. Ouch.
“Sa dami naman na maayos na Grab drivers, sa “solid kapuso” pa makakapag-book 🤣🤣🤣
Koya, kebs kung saan ka solid. Gusto ko lang makauwi. ✌️💔
#justlovearawaraw”
As expected, the post quickly went viral. Many sympathized with Jacque, sharing their own stories but others pointed out that the driver should have known better than to clash with her since she had been covering the issues surrounding Grab.
Of course, if Manong Driver was a true blue ‘Solid Kapuso’, then he probably had no idea who she was or what issues she’s been reporting and monitoring lately.
After she reported the incident to Grab, the company quickly responded. The following morning, Jacque posted an update that the Grab driver has been suspended for 5 days and was set to undergo retraining and coaching so he knows how to better do his job by the time he gets to drive again.
Jacque still found humor in the situation, pulling a ‘hugot’ joke, “LESSON: Huwag magpaasa na darating ka, kung sa iba naman pala nakalaan ang puso mo.🤣”
