MANILA, Philippines – An elementary school teacher in the Philippines has recently gone viral for her energetic exercise moves on the first day of classes. Everyone loved the way she gave an all-out performance as if she owned the stage (and she did own the stage!), despite the fact that she was really just trying to guide the students to follow the exercise moves.
While summer has just started in the US and other countries in the northern hemisphere, June marks the beginning of another school year in the Philippines! Although there are some schools that have adapted the schedule of US schools or moved the classes to begin in July or August, most still follow the schedule set by the Department of Education (DepEd).
It could not be denied that the beginning of the school is met with both excitement and apprehension, not just by students and their parents but also by teachers.
At this time of the year, students might feel excited about the new classmates they might meet and the things they will do but also feel a bit scared of the challenges they might face ahead. Meanwhile, parents are excited to see their children move up another level but also experiencing some headaches during enrolment, especially when the time comes for buying new uniforms, shoes, and school supplies.
But teachers also experience their own dilemma – excited for what could happen in the year but also feeling challenged about the new students they have to deal with in this new school year.
Ma'am Candy Cabusog, a Grade 1 teacher of Mabinay Central Elementary School in Mabinay, Negros Oriental, was tasked to lead the exercise during the school’s flag ceremony on the first day of classes.
It might be the first day of school and the kids were a bit apprehensive (and still sleepy) but Ma’am Candy’s energetic moves would soon brighten up their day and wake them up.
A friend took a video of the energetic school teacher and posted it online. Boom! It would quickly go viral! Soon enough, several news channels picked up the story and Ma'am Candy became a viral hit. She will be featured on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho on Sunday night.
