Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are finally married!
Amid the drama of recent weeks, no thanks to the bride’s father and half-siblings who kept issuing bad revelations and negative statements to the press, the two were finally declared husband and wife at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19.
After the wedding, the two shared their first kiss as husband and wife at the steps of the chapel. This is also their first kiss as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the official title they were given as a royal couple.
Speculation had been rife as to who would walk Meghan down the aisle. Her estranged father first declared that he wouldn’t attend the wedding; then, after the story went viral, he recanted the statement and told the press that he will be there as he wants to be “part of history”. But he changed his mind again, just days leading to the wedding.
Meghan remained silent amid all the rumors flying around; although she would later say that she had always cared for her father but people should give him time and space to focus on his health.
On the wedding day, the newlyweds broke tradition when Prince Charles walked Meghan down the aisle, instead. Isn’t that incredible? While her family bashed and slammed her in public, possibly hoping her groom’s family and the public would hate her as well and she would be walking down the aisle alone, she would be doing this traditional walk with her groom’s father who also happens to be the Crown Prince! Wow! Just wow.
Everyone’s eyes were on Meghan as she walked down the aisle – but many couldn’t help but comment on Harry’s serious and rather shocked expression. It was as if the sight of his beautiful bride had rendered him speechless and unable to move.
While Harry remained serious in most parts of the wedding, perhaps taking care not to roll his eyes at the overly dramatic preacher, there were tender moments that the press caught on camera. At one point, he smiled and told his dashing bride, “You look amazing!”
