MANILA, Philippines – An old couple recently went viral after they fed 60+ bus passengers stranded for 5 hours in Nueva Ecija – and they did not even ask for anything in return! Isn’t that wonderful?
According to Ian Cary Prado, they were traveling to Tuguegarao City when the driver stopped the bus beside a rice field in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, at around 3 p.m. and told the passengers that there was something wrong with the steering wheel and he could not control the bus!
It was a good thing that they were not going fast and had not reached the mountain roads yet or they might have met an accident! Whew.
The passengers had to wait for the ‘rescue bus’ but because it was still coming from the garage in Meycauayan, Bulacan, they had to wait a few more hours before it arrives. They had no choice but to wait.
Many of the passengers sought shade from under the trees or at nearby houses while Prado’s group found shelter inside a small hut.
As darkness began to fall, they were getting tired and hungry. There were no stores nearby where they could buy food or water. To make matters worse, it began to rain.
Stuck in that kubo for hours, the group was getting hungrier by the minute. At around 7:30 p.m., an old lady carrying an umbrella went to the hut to invite them to her house. The old lady, Nanay Pina Diaz, told them that she and her husband had cooked food for the stranded passengers.
The group followed the old lady. Back at her house, they found most of the other stranded passengers hanging out, with many already full after eating the food the couple had offered. It turned out that the two opened all their canned goods and cooked every available food in the house to ensure that all the passengers, as well as the bus driver and conductor, could eat.
It was a gesture that touched them all. So, when the rescue bus finally arrived at 8 p.m., many of the passengers gave tokens to Nanay Pina and her family, in deep gratitude to what she did for them in their time of need.
But Nanay Pina felt happy to help everyone, joking that she enjoyed feeding them all because she felt like she and her husband had just gotten married and the stranded bus passengers were their guests!
