MANILA, Philippines – Former Senator Edgardo Angara passed away on Sunday morning, May 13, due to an apparent heart attack. He was 83.
The sad news was confirmed by his son, Sen. Sonny Angara in a tweet.
The senator added that details of the funeral for his father will be advised.
In May last year, Angara had been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as special envoy to the European Union.
Angara, who hails from Baler, Aurora, served as the President of the Senate from 1993 to 1995.
He was a Senator from 1987 to 1998 and then served as Secretary of Agriculture from 1999 to 2001. He served in the Senate again from 2001 to 2013.

"We are still arranging funeral arrangements for my father but will keep everyone posted too. We ask for prayers for the repose of his soul."
