MANILA, Philippines – Remember Carol Banawa? She recently made waves on local social media after a friend posted the good news that she’s going to graduate summa cum laude from a nursing school in the US!
Born Carol Claire Aguilar Banawa, the now US-based singer is best known in the Philippines simply as Carol Banawa. She entered the Philippine showbiz scene at a young age, having been included in the child-oriented show, ‘Ang TV’.
She became known not just as a talented actress but also as a singer. Her first album was released in 1997. Some of her top hits include “'Till My Heartaches End,” “Iingatan Ka,” and “Bakit 'Di Totohanin.”
Carol has been in and out of the Philippine music scene for various reasons, including in August 2003 when her father got exposed to lethal levels of carbon monoxide.
Now based in the US, 37-year-old Carol is enjoying a quiet life with military husband Ryan Crisostomo and their two children.
But while she still definitely enjoys singing, Carol has focused her time and skills to studying nursing at the Medical Education Campus of Northern Virginia Community College in Springfield, Virginia.
Around 2 years ago, she posted a photo on Instagram of the thick books she needs to study for her nursing degree. She used several hashtags for the post, including #nursingschool, #careergoals, #studentlife, and #lifegoals.
On Thursday, her friend David Cosico just couldn’t help but announce Carol’s latest achievement on Facebook. The proud friend posted a photo of Carol as well as a snapshot of the list of graduates.
David wrote:
“Spell Summa Cum Laude...

Summa Cum Laude!
Congratulations, NURSE Princess Jewel! ❤️🔥❤️”
While her friend was super excited to spread the awesome news, Carol stayed humble and simply shared a photo of a decorated graduation which she credited to her creative Ate Cherry.
Congratulations, Carol!
