MANILA, Philippines – Just like many board and licensure examinations in recent years, the May 2018 board examination for certified public accountants (CPA) was dominated by graduates from provincial schools.
The top 1 and top 2 spots were held by graduates from Leyte while the rest of the Top 10 was dominated by graduates from Cebu, with 11 topnotchers! While there were a number of graduates from NCR schools, it was still quite notable to see that the CPA board exam was really owned by provincial school graduates.

Only 28.92 percent or 2,843 out of 9,830 examinees passed in the licensure exam but this low national passing percentage is nothing new.
What’s notable in the May 2018 CPA board exam is that the top two spots were taken by graduates from the Saint Paul School of Professional Studies in Palo, Leyte: Jayson Ong Chan and Jomari Jess Sacendoncillo Abellar.
The school must be really proud of their graduates. But the University of San Carlos in Cebu City is just as proud as Saint Paul School of Professional Studies, having produced a total of eight graduates on the Top 10!
The following are the Top 10 from the May 2018 CPA board exam. Leyte topnotchers highlighted in yellow, Cebu topnotchers highlighted in green.
Congratulations to all passers, especially to the topnotchers!
