Netizens couldn't help but swoon over the long, lost love of Lola Fely after her grandchild, Erika Mae Balagtas shared on Facebook her diary entries. The first entry was dated January 30, 1966 as she began to recall the past 6 years of her life, “Ito’y kasaysayan namin ni Tasing, ang lalaking bukod tangi kong napag-ukulan ng lahat ng aking pagmamahal.”
Lola Fely recounts that it was in 1960, back when she was only 19 years old when she met Tasing in Bataan. The young impressionable teen didn’t feel any romantic feelings towards Tasing at that time because he was already 30 years old. Lola Fely wrote, “Noong una ko syang nakita hindi paggiliw ang aking nadama kundi pag-aalangan sapagkat malaki ang agwat ng aming gulang.”
Two years passed and after Tasing’s perseverance, Loly Fely who was 21 years old that time, suddenly realized she was falling for her ardent suitor. She wrote, “Pag-ibig na sa kanya ko lamang nadama sa aking buhay.”
But the lovers knowing that Fely’s father wouldn’t approve their relationship, decided to keep it secret. “Pinakalihim lihim namin ito, sapagkat tutol sa kanya ang aking ama. Unang una dahil sa aming edad, pangalawa sya’y isang reserve officer ng Philippine Army bilang First Lieutenant. Ayaw raw nila sa isang sundalo sapagkat lagi kaming magkakalayo.” Fely asked Tasing to wait for a year until they would confess to her family.
A year passed but right at the time when they were ready to confess, Fely’s mother fell ill and eventually died. Fely, being the eldest had no choice but take up the responsibility of taking care of her siblings. Again, she asked Tasing to wait for a year to reveal to her father their relationship.
The two lovers agreed to confess on Fely’s birthday. However, luck was still not on their side, “Ngunit tatlong araw na lamang bago dumating ang kaarawan ko ay nag-iba ang takbo ng pangyayari, nabigla na lamang kami ng magtapat ang kapatid kong dalaga sa aking ama. Inunahan nya kami ni Tasing. Sinampal sya ng aking ama. Umagang umaga kinabukasan ay inuwi sya ng aking ama sa probinsya.”
Tasing and Fely filled with fear, had no choice but forego again their plans. They felt broken but they didn’t lose hope, “Muli kaming umasa, muli kaming nangarap.”
Finally, the heavens opened up on Fely’s birthday and after confessing to her father, he surprisingly gave his approval. After long years of hoping, the lovers’ much awaited marriage was immediately planned. Eventhough the two were apart because Tasing had to be deployed in Camp Aquino in Tarlac, they were filled with anticipation for the fulfillment of their dream. “Muli kaming nangarap, at sa aking pag-iisa ay nangarap din ako. Kung ano ang magiging ayos ko sa aking damit pang kasal magsasalamin ako magpipindong ng puting damit. Anupa’t naging abala kami parehas sa aming nalalapit na kasal.”
But Fely’s hopeful elation was struck with tragedy, she received a telegram that states, “Lt. Morales sick confined army hospital.” When Fely arrived at the hospital, Tasing was now a frail patient with a kidney disease, “Gayon na lamang ang aking pagkahabag nang makita ko sya. Hapis ang kanyang mukha at bagamat nakangiti nya akong binati ay nahalata kong pinipilit nya lang ang kanyang katawan upang palakasin ang aking loob.”
Tasing took her hand and promised her, “Sinabi pa nyang pag dalaw kong muli sa kanya ay susukatan na ako ng wedding gown.”
But after only two days, Fely’s world crashed as she received another telegram, “Lt. morales pass away.” Tasing wasn’t able to survive the operation. Fely wrote, “Nagsisisigaw ako sa malaking sama ng loob. Gayon na lamang ang aking iyak. Pagkaraang malampasan namin ang maraming hadlang, pagkaraan ng apat na taon ay saka pa ito nangyari.
