MANILA, Philippines - Four official entries have been selected by the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Executive Committee to take part in this year’s festival.
Upon the recommendation of MMFF’s Selection committee, the films “Ang Panday” starring Coco Martin; “Almost is Not Enough” starring Jennylyn Mercado and Jericho Rosales; “The Revengers” starring Vice Ganda, Daniel Padilla and Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach; and “LOVE TRAPS #Family Goals” starring Vic Sotto and Dawn Zulueta will be included in the MMFF 2017.
According to MMFF Executive Committee Chairman Tim Orbos, the selection committee had difficulty choosing the entries based on script submission given the quality of films.
“We also have to give credit to this year's Rules Committee which devised the two-part selection process that gave a greater latitude to interested participants for this year," Orbos said.
The entries for MMFF 2017 were evaluated based on artistic excellence (40%), commercial appeal (40%), promotion of Filipino cultural and historical values (10%) as well as global appeal (10%).
There are four remaining slots to complete the eight official entries to the MMFF 2017. These will be chosen from all the submitted finished films.
Deadline of submission for full-length featured films is until October 30. The list of official entries will then be announced on November 17.
Last year, the reformed selection of the official entries to the MMFF sparked controversy as it promised change to Pinoy moviegoers. Vice Ganda and Coco Martin’s "Super Parental Guidance”, Vic Sotto's "Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers”, and Richard Yap's "Mano Po 7: Tsinoy” did not make it to the list.
“When we computed all our individual scores, there was a consensus on these eight films. There were no objections among the execom members, and neither were there other issues that came about from these choices. We were all focused on the same direction, and concerned primarily on the quality of the films,”Nicanor Tiongson, a member of the MMFF 2016 Selection Committee said.
