Magnitude 6.0 earthquake jolts Davao, southern Philippines April 12, 2017

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude 6.0 earthquake that jolted parts of Davao and nearby areas in the southern portion of the country today, April 12, 2017.

The exact time of occurrence was recorded at 05:21:58 a.m. with epicenter at 07.75°N, 124.68°E - 014 km N 36° W of Wao in Lanao Del Sur.

The latest earthquake has a tectonic origin with 1 km depth of focus.

The strong quake was felt at Intensity VII in Wao, Lanao del Sur; Kalilangan, Bukidnon.

Intensity IV was recorded in Cagayan de Oro City; Cotabato City; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Matalam, North Cotabato; Davao City.

Meanwhile, it has Intensity III in Kabacan, North Cotabato; Maramag, Quezon, Don Carlos, Bukidnon; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.

Intensity II in Kidapawan City; Koronadal City and Intensity I in Camiguin, Misamis Oriental were reported.

Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks and damages from the quake.

The agency has received reports of mass panic in several areas due to the temblor.

"We had reports that there were panicking and brownouts in Cotabato City," Phivolcs research specialist Janila de Ocampo said in a phone interview with ABS-CBN News.

As of press time, six aftershocks -- with magnitudes ranging from 2.9 to 4.0 -- have hit Lanao del Sur.
