MANILA, Philippines - Senator Leila de Lima, the vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, also landed on the list of 100 Most Influential People for 2017, the popular magazine unveiled Thursday, April 20.
TIME highlighted the active opponents in politics - not only U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un but also the Philippine leaders Duterte and De Lima.
De Lima has been critical of the alleged Davao Death Squad, accusing the former Davao mayor of the rampant killings during his term. The senator also criticized Duterte for the increasing death toll allegedly due to his war against illegal drugs.
However, Duterte accused the former Justice Secretary of involvement in the drug trade. De Lima was arrested last February over trafficking charges.
On Monday, TIME Magazine named Duterte as winner in the online poll (Duterte wins 2017 TIME 100 Reader Poll).
