CEBU CITY, Philippines - Cebu authorities are in search of a road rage suspect identified as David Lim Jr., son of a Filipino-Chinese businessman who is alleged of shooting a nurse following a traffic altercation on Sunday, March 19. Cebu City Mayor Thomas Osmeña has offered a P100, 000 reward for Lim’s arrest.
The suspect is reportedly the nephew of Peter Lim, who was earlier accused by President Rodrigo Duterte as one of the biggest drug lords in the Philippines.
Osmeña along with a joint team from the Cebu City Police Office’s Investigation and Detection Management Bureau (IDMB) and Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) raided a condominium unit on Juana Osmena Extension and a house in Maria Luisa Subdivision in Cebu City but failed to find David Lim Jr.
Chief Inspector Ryan Devaras, head of the IDMB, said the team talked to the suspect’s parents, who claimed they didn’t know where Lim is. They told the police that they are willing to coordinate with them.
According to Osmeña, the raids were carried out without a warrant of arrest.
“The judge has refused to issue me a warrant of arrest. I have ordered SWAT to execute the raid on David Lim’s house. I accept all legal responsibility,” Osmeña, wrote in his Facebook page.
He also disclosed that he already informed Secretary Christopher “Bong” Go, special assistant to President Rodrigo Duterte about the raid.
“Hi Bong, fyi lang, tonight I personally raided the house of David Lim, brother to Peter. His son was captured on video this morning shooting a nurse. The judge in Cebu refused to issue a warrant of arrest and the police refused to move with no warrant until I threatened to perform the raid by myself. Please tell the President that I need help getting an arrest warrant ASAP so a hold departure order can be placed. This is beyond me na. Need help,” Osmeña told Go thru a text message.
Based on police investigation, victim Ephraim Nuñal, 33, was traversing F. Sotto Street on board a Toyota Altis when a Mercedez Benz with plate number UWI-731 suddenly stopped in the middle of the road, disrupting the flow of traffic.
This prompted the nurse to honk his horn.
Angered by Nuñal’s action, Lim alighted his luxury car and kicked the side of the former’s vehicle. He also reportedly tried to punch Nuñal but the latter eluded the jab.
Lim then returned to his vehicle to take his gun and started shooting the victim in his left thigh and right knee despite his female companion’s effort to stop him. The suspect immediately left the scene after the shooting.
A video of the incident, captured by a motorist, went viral on social media.
