MANILA, Philippines - 'Bagyong Auring' has maintained its strength as it continues to move closer over Surigao del Sur, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 8:00 a.m. bulletin on Sunday, January 8, 2017.

'Bagyong Auring' PAGASA weather update January 8, 2017

At 7:00 a.m. today, the center of Tropical Depression 'Auring' was estimated based on all available data at 100 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (08.1°N, 127.2°E).

'Bagyong Auring' has maximum winds of up to 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 7 kph.

  • 48 Hour(Tuesday morning): 170 km South Southeast of Cuyo, Palawan(9.4°N, 121.0°E)
  • 72 Hour(Wednesday morning): 85 km West of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan(9.8°N, 117.7°E)
  • 96 Hour(Thursday morning): 70 km West of Pagasa Island, Palawan (OUTSIDE PAR)(11.1°N, 113.5°E)
  • 120 Hour(Friday morning): 365 km West of Pagasa Island, Palawan (OUTSIDE PAR)(10.8°N, 110.8°E)

PAGASA raised tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 (30-60 kph Expected in 36 hours) in 20 areas: Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Provinces, Southern Leyte and Cebu (Visayas); Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Davao del Norte, Northern Davao Oriental, Northern Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Northern Lanao del Sur and Compostela Valley (Mindanao).

Impacts of the wind:

  • Very light or no damage to low risk structures,
  • Light damage to medium to high risk structures
  • Slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities. Some banana plants are tilted, a few downed and leaves are generally damaged
  • Twigs of small trees may be broken.
  • Rice crops, however, may suffer significant damage when it is in its flowering stage.

Wave Height: (Open Sea) 1.25-4.0 meters.

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within 300 km diameter of the Tropical Depression.

Residents of areas with TCWS #1 and over the rest of Davao Region and of Northern Mindanao are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.

Expected to make landfall over Surigao del Sur between today (evening) until tomorrow (early morning).

Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and of Mindanao.
