MMFF 2016 Day 1: Box Office Top grosser, Earnings and Ranking

MANILA, Philippines - Star Cinema's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2016 entry "Vince & Kath & James" is the Day 1 top grosser among 8 entries, Eric John Salut, AdProm Manager for Publicity & Media Relations has confirmed on Twitter on Monday.

The GRADED A film by the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) "Vince & Kath & James" stars Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia, and Ronnie Alonte. Directed by Theodore Boborol, it is based on the viral socialserye "Vince & Kath."

A report from Pep.ph on Sunday night said that another Graded A movie, the internationally-acclaimed comedy film "Die Beautiful," starring the King of Make-up Transformation Paolo Ballesteros, is on the tight race for the top spot.

"It's a tight battle between Die Beautiful and Vince & Kath & James for first place on the first day of MMFF 2016, according to different sources," the entertainment website shared.

Unconfirmed reports claim that an Erik Matti horror film "Seklusyon" and comedy movie "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2: #ForeverIsNotEnough" are among the top 4 MMFF 2016 entries based on Day 1 box office gross.

"Seklusyon" stars Alonte, Dominic Roque and Lou Veloso while the second installment of 'Septic Tank' film stars Eugene Domingo, Jericho Rosales, Kean Cipriano, Cai Cortez, Khalil Ramos, and Joel Torre.

Other entries to the 2016 MMFF are the drama film "Kabisera," political thriller "Oro," sci-fi film "Saving Sally," and documentary drama "Sunday Beauty Queen."

Meanwhile, the first-day gross of all competing films, according to sources, are way below than previous years. This is after the decision of MMFF committe to exclude prominent mainstream movies - Vice Ganda's "Super Parental Guardians," Vic Sotto's "Enteng Kabisote" and Richard Yap's "Mano Po 7" on this year's MMFF magic eight.

The committee is yet to reveal the official figures of earnings for each MMFF entry.

The 42nd edition of the annual MMFF will run until January 3, 2017 in major cinemas across Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

The Gabi ng Parangal or MMFF 2016 awards night is set on December 29 in Kia Theatre. It will be shown via delayed basis on IBC-13.
